Anthony and Autumn Nelson parents of the six year old Ian] are outraged by the small punishment that their son’s teacher received after a video surveillance shown their six-year-old kindergartner being rough handed by his teacher.
In the video, Ian goes to the boys bathroom and then makes his way back to his class. Suddenly, he is approached by his teacher, Barb Williams.
” You can see where she grabs at his face, she slams him against the wall. We thought it was just a little incident that happened, you know that’s what the school made it sound like. All of a sudden, we get this video today and this is just outrageous said Anthony Nelson. “
Ian mother said:
” He was in other room, and I watched it out in the kitchen and I just started crying. I burst out in tears. I called my mom, I called his mom. I started calling everybody saying i don’t know what to do said Autumn Nelson. He’s scared of her!. Even, going tot the school next year, even the year after he’ll still have to see her if she’s present in the building. That’s probably going to scare him. “
My take is pretty simple – teachers must follow the rules just like students. After watching this video, I agree with the parents. Whether a child is misbehaving in class that does not give the right of any adult to place his or hand on someone else’s child [especially without their parents consent]. I’m sure Ms. Williams received the rules in her employee handbook.
The Nelsons are seeking for the school district to terminate Williams from Riverdale Schools.
