Actor, Djimon Honsou is talking a different tune when it comes to “jumping the broom” with your soulmate. The actor [who is now single following his long term relationship with Kimora Simmons [whom he shares a son with] recently talked about the commitment of marriage with Hip Hollywood and fellow cast mates [L-R: Terrence J, Taye Diggs, Boris Kodjoe, and Derek Luke]  of the upcoming film “Baggage Film” and says:

” The idea of  marrying somebody can actually “ruin the union”. Some people are very happily married, I mean together for decades and they into this fantasy idea of going to get married and its just about papers, you know – Signing papers! And eventually it just goes sour.”

Sidebar: The married men in the circle went from nodding their head’s  [at first] then looking puzzled as Sjimon dropped that last bombshell line at the end.

Take a watch and tell us your thoughts below:

You know “marriage” vs. “civil union”  is an important topic that needs to be talked about more than just in a brief interview. As a married woman [myself] I can agree with Jimon’s statement in that  “marriage can ruin the relationship” As we see in modern marriages [today] it seems to be more about the “material poise” [the highest expense for the venue location and decor, top designer brand wedding gowns and tuxedo’s, top shelf open bar  and food options, and  over the top wedding cakes that most women don’t  eat because they’re watching their figure. This is all done in the name of  “pleasing others” and that’s only the beginning. Following the wedding celebration – LIFE begins. And while most people say that “nothing will change” it does.  Children are added to family the dynamic, couples normally purchase home, roles are defined, and the financial pressures begin to build. Now this is just the ‘tip of the iceberg‘ for regular folks, so one can just imagine what challenges “celebrities face when under the public microscope daily.

So what is marriage is all about? And are we living up to its true meaning?

While  Djimon may have sparked the conversation, its surely worth the discussion.
