“‘Acapella’ was created almost exclusively with human voices,” says Heidemann, who wrote the song with Noonan, Sam Hollander, and Martin Johnson (Boys Like Girls), who also produced the track. “We flipped the original meaning of the word ‘acapella’ to mean ‘D.I.Y.,’ or should we say ‘D.I.A. – Do It Acapella!'”

“Acapella” follows on Karmin’s two previous singles “Hello” and “Brokenhearted,” both of which climbed to No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Dance Club Songs chart. The double-platinum selling “Brokenhearted” was also a Top 10 hit on the Pop Songs chart and a Top 20 hit on the Hot 100, while the video racked up more than half a billion views on YouTube.

Heidemann and Noonan, who met at Boston’s prestigious Berklee College of Music and are both trained musicians, first began to attract attention in April 2011 when a cover Chris Brown’s “Look At Me Now” they posted went viral, earning millions of views after being Tweeted by such hip-hop heavy hitters as The Roots’ Questlove, producers Diplo and Jermaine Dupree, and rapper The Game, each of whom marveled at the astonishing spectacle of Heidemann spitting Brown’s, Lil Wayne’s, and Busta Rhymes’ raps at warp speed.

Karmin have since parlayed that early attention into a blossoming pop career, signing to Epic Records, which released their debut EP Hello in May 2012. They have been honored by BMI, winning a BMI Pop Award for “Brokenhearted” (one of last year’s most performed pop songs, and have also won an American Music Award (for New Media Honoree), a Boston Music Award, an MTV O Award, and have been nominated for two Teen Choice Awards. Karmin have performed on a number of high-profile TV shows, including Good Morning America, Live with Kelly and Michael, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, America’s Got Talent, Dancing With The Stars, Dick Clark’s Rockin’ New Year’s Eve, Saturday Night Live, The Tonight Show With Jay Leno, The Rachel Zoe Project, and the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Last year, Heidemann appeared on the cover of Rolling Stone (the second female artist to be honored last year) when Karmin’s fans voted them winners of the magazine’s “Women Who Rock” competition.

In July, Karmin will head out for a summer tour with The Jonas Brothers. They will also perform at several major Gay Pride festivals during the month of June. Please see below for tour dates.
