As Hot 97 celebrated their 20th anniversary of their annual summer concert at the Met Life stadium last night , they’re were many artists, who were both scheduled and or attended the show in honor of the legendary hip hop station. Now with that said, it is often unlikely for an artist to haphazardly enter the stage arena and command his/her own set without warning or scheduling of some sort with the promoters of the event.
Well, Brooklyn rapper Papoose [ who is known for his popular feature on Busta Rhymes “Touch It” remix track] along with a slew of tracks from his many mixtapes could careless who was scheduled to perform. ‘Given his close friendship with west coast rapper, Kendrick Lamar [who Papoose says he’s known prior to Lamar’s entry into the rap game], Papoose was given the mic and he took to the stage and performed his current radio single “Get At Me” from his latest album debut ‘The Nacirema Dream‘ [American Dream spelled backwards] .
Hot 97 program director, Ebro Darden immediately took to the radio this morning and stated that Papoose was not listed on the performing roster and should have NOT gone on stage. Soon thereafter, Papoose called into the morning show and defended his actions saying: “The Fans Need Real Hip Hop“. In addition, Papoose noted that
“Any aspiring rapper/artists coming into the game should at any moment take an opportunity when available“.
As for Ebro – he quickly back-pedaled his statements and made light of the entire incident on air. It’s something about them Brooklyn rappers – that no one wants to BEEF with.
