Candice Glover was crowned American Idol season 12 winner last night in the staples center arena in Los Angeles leaving Candice “speechless. Needless to say Mariah Carey was right on this one! Candice wowed the world and the judges with her stellar performance of “Love Song” a few weeks back; showing that she had the chops and the stage presence to be a top runner up.
As the weeks drew near Candice Glover and country singer, Kree Harrison were the chosen “runner ups” and last night America agreed that Candice had earned the “winning title” of American Idol.
As her name was announced Candice was in a state of disbelief and shock. In a following press interview Candice said:
“I always knew for some reason that it would happen if I kept going. “
Just a couple weeks back, Candice met her favorite rap idol Drake [who surprised her] after she performed one of his songs and last night she was joined by Jennifer Hudson [season 6 runner up] and performed ” Inseperable” leaving the audience and the judges on their feet.
When asked of the experience Candice said:
“I look up to her [Jennifer] and, honestly, she is so successful after this show, and I really admire her,” said Glover, who worked as an excursions coordinator renting scooters and golf carts back home. “I finally got a chance to not only meet her but sing with her.” [reports ABC]
Candice added that the best is yet to come but one thing she’s is most happy about is that she no longer has to compete for votes ; citing that it was the most stressful part of the competition.
“Part of me is so happy that it happened, and part of me is relieved that I don’t have to sing for votes and worry about making it to the next round, because that’s such a stressful process. But I know the work is only going to get bigger from here on out. “
This is the first time a female and non-white singer has won American Idol since Jordan Sparks took the title in 2007 – reports ABC. Runner up, Kree Harrison said:
“The title is freaking Amazing, and I’m so proud of Candice, but for me, I’m so thankful I could even stand next to her on the finale,” said Harrison, who now lives in Nashville, Tenn.
