Malcolm Lateef Shabazz, grandson of civil rights leader Malcolm X [aka El Hajj, El-Malik Shabazz] has reportedly died on Thursday morning  [May 9th]  Close family and spiritual advisor , Terrie Williams confirmed Shabazz death to the US. Embassy, and on facebook on the behalf of the  Shabazz family.

Shabazz, 28 was reportedly killed during an apparent robbery incident.  Since news of the story broke there have been many conflicting stories. One story suggest that Shabazz was thrown off a rooftop building, and other reports suggest Shabazz’s death could of been a direct result from his visit with leader, Miguel Suarez from a California civil rights rights group called RUMEC  -says activist Juan Ruiz [a member of RUMEC]

Al-Hajj Talib Abdur-Rashid, a leading American figure in Islam and the imam of the Mosque of Islamic Brotherhood in Harlem, N.Y.,Williams noted to NBC that he is unable to say anything further of the incident but did note that the  Shabazz family is extremely “private” and members of the family are in complete shock and disbelief of it all.

“I am a spiritual adviser to the family itself,” he said. “They’re like any family would be under the circumstances. They’re in shock. They’re grieving.”

Meanwhile Juan Ruiz says that he had spoke to Suarez who was with Shabazz at the time of his death. Ruiz tells TPM

“He was murdered. He was in Mexico City and I believe they attempted to rob him and he didn’t allow it, so they beat him to death and he died on his way to the hospital,” said Ruiz. “This is all I can confirm, everything else is under investigation for the meantime.”

The United States has yet to make an official statement on what happened and only confirmed to public with the following:

Shabazz has had his triumphs and pit fulls. In 1997, Shabazz was imprisoned for four years after pleading guilty to setting a fire in his Westchester home which killed his grandmother, Betty Shabazz.

Shabazz claimed that he was “schizophrenic”and in need of help [at the time] but when questioned about the fire following his prison release with the Amsterdam news, Shabazz says “I was coerced” …. “I’ve been a target my entire life. My family is targeted.” In 2002  Shabazz joined the Blood gangs and was imprisoned a second time after an attempted robbery.

In 2011, Shabazz seemed to be looking to leading a more positive path and announced that he was writing a book about his life and how he STILL feels that they’re “selected businessmen and government officials” after his family. Shabazz went on to say that he underwent [what he called]  a “necessary purification process” .

Shabazz did appear on an Iranian news outlet last year where he talked about the current state of “Institutionalized Slavery”  that STILL exists in the United States, Why Muslims [of any kind] had no participation in 911, and how the 13th amendment perpetuates the “pennies for a dollar‘ minimum wage system.
