Nicki Minaj caused another controversial stir with her latest “integrity” statement. The Pink Friday says that she prides herself on knowing that she didn’t have to sleep her way to the top  in order to gain the success she has. She went on to say that aspiring female artists should sustain their integrity around the industry males.   In a recent interview with MTV news Nicki said the following:

When I started being around Young Money, Wayne thought I was shy, but it wasn’t that I was shy, I just didn’t want anybody to think I was easy. No matter what my lyrics were saying, when I got around these guys, I was a prude, because I didn’t want anyone in this game to ever be able to say ‘I had sex with her’ or ‘when she needed a deal, she had to…..’ No.

“And ‘til this day, not one single man in this industry can say that and I pride myself on that. That’s the only bit of advice I would give the up-and-coming female rappers. You could be as sexy as you want, but just maintain your dignity around these guys.”

However, Nicki’s new video ” Highschool” ft. Lil Wayne had folks talking all across the web given her flirty intimate scenes with Lil Wayne although the two never really touch cross sexual lines.  Some people suggest that Nicki  “back-pedaled” a bit  by getting too cozily alongside her boss Wayne [the man responsible for introducing rap career launch]. According to Jay Stevens over at the Village Voice blog there’s an underlying message in this particular scene Nicki wants us to know [which he calls the subtext of the video] and its not what we see on the surface perhaps.  Stephens says:
” The entire process of their meeting is symbolic of how, once upon a time, Lil Wayne saved Minaj by discovering her and signing her to Young Money Entertainment. Without his intervention, she might still be a struggling artist. But she wants you to know that they never had sex. Their relationship is one of pure intellectualism and a passion for the arts. Lil Wayne saved her soul, not her body. “
Despite what people may think,  Nick says she’s proud of herself today and feels that’s its okay to be “raunchy” at times
yet business oriented in the entertainment industry. Nicki went on to tell MTV:
“I want to be female rapper turned mogul. I want to be the female Jay in terms of how he carved out his business because I didn’t understand why female rappers—and shout out to the female rappers that came before me, I always have to say that, because I mean no disrespect. I just feel like maybe whoever was in their circles didn’t really help them be all that they could be and I just decided to change that.”
