Let The Publicity Begin!
LL Cool J and Brad Paisley collaborative new song “Accidental Racist” has caused an uproar since its release on Monday [April 8th] . Aside from the fact that the LL is a rapper and Paisley is a country singer [and those genres never cross with one another], the song and its controversial lyrics is causing much debate and majority of public opinion suggest that the two should’ve of probably wrote and entirely different song all together. In the song LL raps:
If You Don’t Judge My Du-Rag/
I Won’t Judge Your Red Flag/
If You Forget My Gold Chains/
I’ll Forget The Iron Chains/
Sidebar: I’m sorry LL – you got it WRONG on this track and your highly mistaken to even compare gold chains with iron “slavery” chains.
Well, LL Cool J and Brad Paisley appeared on Good Morning America earlier today and they defended their song. LL even dropped a historical line from the late great Dr. Martin Luther King.
“Darkness doesn’t drive out darkness, only light can. Hate doesn’t drive out hate, only love can.”
LL went on to say that we the people should:
“Don’t get bitter, get better. Let’s not be victims of things that happened so long ago anymore.”
Paisley said:
”Let’s respect it, but after we respect it let’s open our hearts up so we can move forward.”
Sidebar: Mr. Paisley what exactly are we respecting here. I second guess Paisley and LL’s answer as it suggests [to me] that black folks should accept those of whom that STILL wear the ‘confederate flag‘ proudly and white folks should be less judgmental to blacks that wear ‘durag’s‘ and ‘gold chains‘ as it symbolizes [what exactly] . I’m sorry LL /Paisley- you got it WRONG again on this track and LL – your highly mistaken to even compare and reference gold chains with iron “slavery” chains.
Now although I have my strong feelings on this topic of the confederate flag I stumbled upon an article that breaks down the ongoing issue of the confederate flag perfectly. Written by columnist Jason Presberg of DEEP Diversity Emerging Education Program a while back. You can read his article here
I understand the gesture of such a song but the direction was way off. Similar to the Holocaust [as Presberg points out] Although the “Swastika” was initially created as a symbol of PEACE by Jewish people, it will forever be associated with the Holocaust in the history books. Whether Paisley is bringing issue that he and many southerners [of the today’s generation] see the confederate flag as a symbol of southern pride and not of its origin; the confederate flag will always be remembered with southerners for Pro-Slavery. The confederate flag needs to be removed – and will NEVER have my vote. Sorry!
As the interview concluded LL Cool J and Paisley announced that they will issuing another collaborative track on the subject of LOVE. Let’s see if these two can redeem themselves with their new track because “accidental racist” just took a nose dive.
