Recap: The 2013 “Women Do It Big” Event [Photos]

Happy Monday PLUM’s. I’ve been offline for some time but I’m back!  I wanted to catch up my PLUM’s on my whereabouts  these past few weeks so let’s start this off with “The 2013 Women Do It Big Event” My good friend from highschool Najah Styles [who is now a fashion stylist] invited me to this event and I was truly inspired by it to say the least. This was the first stop of the Powerhouse Women do It Big National Tour and it presented women with the opportunity to network, eat, sample products, and learn how to build a networth by making “power moves“.

The event was held in Harlem NY at the  Alhambra ballroom and hosted by none other than businesswoman and real estate guru Tiana Von Johnson [aka Ms. Powerhouse] and millionaire’s club Chyna Bethley.  The women empowered event held speakers from many powerhouse women from the entertainment, book, and wellness industry. Speakers included rap legend Roxanne Shante, famed author Terri Woods [famously known from her hit book True To The Game] singer, Syleena Johnson,  media personality Tionna Smalls [ of VH!’s What Chilli Wants], Tashera Simmons [author and former wife of DMX]  and more.

Each of these women took to the panel to share their personal journey of triumph,  failures, financial setbacks, and their loss of faith during their weakest moments of life. But one key  message that was constant throughout all the speakers was to always  “Keep The Faith & Move Forward“]  despite any challenges that you may face on your journey.  I was personally inspired by many of the touching stories that these women shared having come from similar backgrounds and upbringing and now pursuing an entrepreneur career with no rule book or mentor guide. I learned that “KNOWING” and “OWNING” what you want to do in LIFE is the”Key To One’s Success” but it is also equivalent to the “Hard Work” that goes into achieving your personal goals.

Speaker  Tionna Smalls  also suggested that:

Owning And Knowing Your True Potential And Worth Is Important For Women

My personal favorite “take away” mantra was one spoken from singer Syleena Johnson who said women should be defiant in their pursuits, be confident [against all odds] and keep in mind of the five P’s  which are:

Proper

Preparation

Prevents

Poor

Performance

Other festivities included sell station booths of some of today’s products of shoes, jewelry, cosmetics, wellness drinks, and a fashion show by Najah Styles. Models strutted the center catwalk in a variety of clothing items of  women’s everyday wear] with some of today’s hottest spring and summer color trends. Black and white mixed patterns, african prints, and bold colors was a hit on the catwalk. The ceremony concluded with a group prayer led by a pastor woman [ whose name I can’t remember right now] and needless to say –  everyone in the room left the event  feeling more empowered than ever before. Awesome event.  Be sure to catch up with these ladies when they touch down in your city. For more info on the Women Do It Big National Tour click here
