WTF! Another racially motivated crime takes the life of yet another black teen. Jordan Russell Davis, 17 was shot and killed by a white male name Michael Dunn, 45 after the two got into a verbal exchange over loud music [that Russell and two other friends were playing in their vehicle]. Now before we even get into the blame game, let the record show that Dunn has already plead “NOT GUILTY” [similar to George Zimmerman vs. Trayvon Martin case] under Florida’s “Stand Your Ground” law which protects a person[s] “self-defense” rights.
According to MSNBC, here’s the incident report of the alleged “self defense” shooting that Dunn’s is now claiming.
……Dunn fired eight shots at an SUV occupied by Davis and his friends. Dunn told police he left his son’s wedding, where he admitted to having only a couple of drinks. Dunn reportedly confronted the teenagers because they were playing loud music in the parking lot of a convenience store and he then asked them to turn the music down. Jordan Davis and his three friends did not turn the music down. Dunn’s story, as told through his lawyer, is that he thought he saw a shotgun in the car and felt his life was threatened. Dunn’s lawyer says he fired several rounds and two bullets hit Davis who was sitting in the middle of the back seat.
After shots were fired, Dunn quickly fled the scene. Police found him 173 miles away from the shooting and arrested him the next day. On Wednesday, Dunn was formally charged with murder in the second degree of Jordan Davis and the attempted murder of the other kids in the car.
WOW! I’m completely BAFFLED by this. So because the law allows a persons[s] to carry and possess firearm, its more than likely that any person in the state of Florida could carry a firearm at any time and fire upon anyone, at anytime even if they speculate that their life is threatened in anyway. I’d love to re-read the Florida law/bill on this clause. Keep in mind that Dunn has openly admitted to having a COUPLE of drinks and he also stated that he THOUGHT he saw a SHOTGUN in the vehicle.
