We all can agree that some things are better left unsaid but often times you find yourself having to address/respond to critics over growing rumors that can hinder or dent your character. Now Jay-Z is very familiar of critcs who often slander his business role and the same was no different this week following the music mogul’s opening concert at Barclay Center; the home stadium of the Brooklyn Nets [whom Jay-Z has part-ownership of]. Many critics questioned Jay-Z’s role in the Nets ownership; which some critics say is roughly 0.67 percent of the company. Now, Hova remained silent on day one and two of the concert but he quickly addressed the rumors once and for all on the third night of his eight-day concert series during his introduction performance.
Prior to issuing a statement, Jay-Z talked about his proudest moments being a native of brooklyn and being inspired from all the African -American legends [before him] that made history at the historic venue . He went on to say that he feels its no coincidence that he’s now part of the Barclay’s Center franchise and he makes no apology for how far he comes before stating the following:
“When I look at the paper and I see them talking, ‘Eh, he owns one-fifteenth.’ First of all, I don’t know where they get that number from. But I’m cool with it. I know it’s not about me, it’s about ya’ll. What I mean by that is it’s not personal to me. They know that if you see me standing here that you know it’s possible to achieve great things and I know a lot of y’all out there already achieved great things, and will continue to do so,” Hov continued, “Don’t let anybody diminish your accomplishments. It’s our motherfucking time now.”
Jay then unleashed his classic song “99 problems” which ignited the crowd yet again.
Ownership is Ownership!
Whether is 1/15 percent or 99% its OWNERSHIP. Jay-Z is a ‘SHAREHOLDER‘ in the Nets franchise and that’s a HUGE accomplishment. I don’t care if Jay-Z owns 1%, that man is “RICH“and I’m sure his Net’s salary [whatever it is] could feed an entire borough for a month. Not to mention all the stores and club he has insideand outside the venue . Put A Sock in it People.
In the words of Pat Riley who wrote on hotnewhiphop.com:
99% percent of you don’t own 1/15 of the house you live in!
Ain’t that the truth!
