In a rare interview with the Guardian Guide [which is said to publish this Saturday July, 21th] Frank Ocean will speak candidly for the first time since his 4th of July revelation to come out.
In the interview the article, the Novocane singer said that his decision was solely of his own purpose and freedom. Here’s whats he said:
“About my own sanity and my ability to feel like I’m living a life where … I’m happy when I wake up in the morning, and not with this freakin’ boulder on my chest. I wished at 13 there was somebody I looked up to who would have said something like that, who would have been transparent in that way. People are just afraid of things too much … Sure, evil exists, extremism exists. Somebody could commit a hate crime and hurt me. But they could do the same just because I’m black. They could do the same just because I’m American.”
Ocean also noted that he knew that a few of his songs would raise eyebrows and people would start to question so it was only a matter of time despite being told to pro-long the telling of his truth.
I knew that my star was rising, and I knew that if I waited I would always have somebody that I respected be able to encourage me to wait longer, to not say it till who knows when”
Whether it was good timing or just just the boldest mover ever for a “hiphop artist” to come out freely, I respect Frank’s bravery. This is clearly a wake up to all of us, that it’s a NEW day out here and we are all part of the human family. Those of us that are love to preach UNITY, RESPECT, and EQUALITY for all should clearly take a page from Frank’s book and ask ourselves. Are we really practicing what we preach!
