Yvette Wilson, 48, a stand-up comedian and actress best known for her roles on the TV sitcom “Moesha” and its spinoff, “The Parkers,” died Thursday after a battle with cervical cancer.
Wilson’s friend Jeffrey Pittle, who organized a fund online last month to help with her medical bills confirmed her death. After a start in stand-up comedy, Wilson landed her first acting gig in the 1993 ABC sitcom “Thea” and in the films “House Party 3,” “Friday” and “Poetic Justice.” Wilson later casted a role in the 1996 UPN sitcom “Moesha,” where she portrayed Andell Wilkerson, alongside R&B singer Brandy. After five seasons Wilson went on to join UPN’s spin-off show “The Parkers” where she remained for five more seasons.
Wilson’s manager [Holly Carter] was born and raised in Los Angeles, appeared on HBO’s “Def Comedy Jam” and spent most of her recent years working in real estate and managing a record label.
Many celebrities confirmed expressed their condolences via twitter including Wilson’s co-stars.
