Daily Discussion: Diddy’s Son, Justin Combs Gets Full Scholarship To UCLA

Is It Really About Who You Are And/Or Who You Know?

Well, some folks are up in arms over the latest controversy surrounding Diddy’s son Justin Comb’s.  Justin was awarded a $54,000 full athletic scholarship to play football at UCLA but the award was also given as recognition of his high academic achievement in sustaining a 3.75 GPA throughout high school.

Well, many folks are unpleased by this and feel that the award should’ve been given to someone less fortunate given that Justin is a shepherd of the rich and famous ‘Diddy’. Here’s what  UCLA’s spokesman Ricardo Vazquez had to to say of it all:

There’s a misconception out there that somehow athletic scholarships would take away money from low-income students who need need-based aid. That’s not the case. Athletic scholarships are awarded strictly on the basis of athletic and academic ability.

Vasquez does have a point but we are all familiar with the business of colleges and it’s impact when celebrities attend the institution as well. So, Can the rules bend or extend at times? Yes! But the cover-up of it all is the ‘writing’s on the wall’. I’m pretty sure a statement would be release stating the eligibility of the scholarship because that is the ONLY college defense.

Now, Justin and or any other celebrity child shouldn’t suffer and or be un-afforded opportunities given their parental income and or status. Justin  obviously has the academic record and the athletic skill that proves exactly why he received the scholarship to begin with. Hence the reason why he was  afforded a $300,000 Maybach for his 16th birthday by poppa Diddy last year.

Sidebar: I bet my last dollar that if every urban youth had a gift like that to look forward to, they would work twice as hard in school and GRADUATE High School at the very least.

So whether your famous and or affiliated with higher powers one creates their own destiny. Justin will have to stand on his own in the classroom and on the field at UCLA [as he did in highschool] so he’ll have to prove himself yet again in order to maintain his scholarship.
