Mavado Found Guilty In Assault Case, Deejay Disgruntled With Judge’s Decision

Internationally acclaimed dancehall deejay, Movado [aka David Brooks,] was found guilty of two charges in relation to an assault case stemming from an incident in Montego Bay last year where Movado had performed.

On Monday, [May7th]  a judge in Montego Bay Resident Magistrates Court inSt. James found the highly regarded singjay guilty of assault, bodily harm, and malicious destruction of property.As a result, Mavado received two sentences. In the first sentence, Movado was ordered to pay Jamaican a fine of $80,000 and/or face a six-month prison term. In addition, the sinjay was ordered to pay an additional fine of $20,000 and/or serve an additional six-months in jail in relation to the malicious destruction of property charge.

The charges stem from a July 2011 incident which took place a day after Mavado performed at Reggae Sumfest at Catherine Hall. Allegedly, Mavado and members of his entourage attacked a man [Henry Cunningham] and his son, [Oshane Cunningham] in a moment of road rage. Both men reportedly sustained multiple injuries in the altercation and the vehicle in which they were travelling was reportedly damaged.

Following the verdict, Mavado took to IRIE FM radio where he affirmed his innocence. The dancehall deejay says that he inflicted no harm or any of the defendants [nor did he at any time step out of his vehicle] and feels that he is getting a bad rap because of his celebrity status.

Up to now, Mi nuh understand how mi get a guilty verdict. Mi nuh do nutten, mi nuh come out a mi van and talk to nobody or any ting and furthermore, I don’t like how the judge deal with the situation because up to now I think that the judge don’t understand the whole case because him a she different ting so mi cyaah really understand.

Movado went on to say there was no witnesses that accounted the incident except for what the defendant’s is alleging. Given the ruling of the case Movado’s lawyers intend to appeals the judge’s decision.
