Excuses, Excuses, Excuses!
That’s all that was coming out of Terell Owens mouth following his appearance on Dr.Phil show yesterday [May 8th]. The former NFL wider receiver came face to face with three of four his babymother’s who all said that Terell has and continues to be an absentee father in their children’s lives.
As each one of his babymother’s single handedly shared stories of their children’s estranged relationship with their father [T.O], Terrell blamed everything else except himself. Terell attributes not knowing his father until he was 10 years of age onyl to find out he lived directly across the street from him where he grew up. T.O also says that his recent financial woes and recent unemployment from the NFL put a huge dent in his pockets which doesn’t allow him to fulfill his 50,000 month child support obligation to his four children.
As you may know T.O. cried wolf on national television after learning that he lost his entire 80 million dollar fortune [to luxury cars, fancy trips and vacation’s, expensive garbs, women, and all the other perks of the fast life]. T.O then called out his babymama’s or as he referred to them [gold-diggers] and blamed their personal intent towards him for his lack of parenting towards his children.
I love my kids to death and I definitely want to have that relationship with my kids that I didn’t have with my father. With me not being physically, year-round, in the same place as my kids, it’s hard for me to establish that relationship. People may think I’m a deadbeat dad but I was fulfilling my obligations as far as financial support
Sidebar: I’m still hung up on the fact that T.O managed to blow 80 million dollars. As the saying goes: If you don’t respect your money, you’ll never be able to preserve money. This is what happens to many athletes and musician’s [especially black people] when they get so caught up in ‘Fame’ and not the business aspect from which they’re employed. T.O lost sight of the everything else; meanwhile those working for him were robbing him blind cause he was so caught up in the flashy life. I’m sure T.O learned a valuable lesson from this and so should many people as well. Material gains is not sucesss; it’s a luxury of success.
As the back and forth continued, Dr. Phil wasted no time intervening in the discussion. Dr.Phil concluded the interview with some value key points of what parenting is all about and how the absence of a father’s role has a huge impact on a child’s life [which often turns into negative behavior than positive] as a result. Dr. Phil also informed the mother’s of T.O’s children of how important it is to for a child to establish a relationship with the father despite how often and or removed the father may be qbecause often times as children get older they become aware that “mommy” too played a role in them not seeing their father and now the child resents the mommy.
