My Music Is Not ‘POP’ – Nicki !
As Nicki made her way back to the states she wants to make one thing clear to all of her barbz and critics – her music is not ‘pop’ and therefore should not be characterized as such.
During her last interview over in the UK, a reporter referenced Nicki’s new album “Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded” as pop music and they didn’t go over well with the rapper. Nicki brought out the “Old Nicki” on that ass and gave her album perspective instead.
Reporter: “It was meant as a compliment… I have listened to it ”
Nicki Minaj: “You know what it is, I get tired of people making statements that go to the world and they will read what you write and what you’re saying isn’t true. The album is a versatile album with five dance tracks on it. The album has 19 songs and the majority of it is hip-hop. How can you give people a true account if you haven’t listened to it in its entirety?
Reporter: “Let’s start again, shall we?”
Nicki Minaj: “No! I want you to realize how annoying it is when people come to me having not heard my album in its entirety because, if you had, then you wouldn’t have said that. My new album has five dance tracks on it produced by RedOne, who I’m absolutely in love with. Prior to that, it has a very mix tape feel that people need to know about. With people like yourself printing things about the album, it’s really, really misleading to the average person.”
Reporter: “OK, all that will be in the piece, I assure you.”
Nicki Minaj: “OK.”
Now I’m not sure if a voice in Nicki’s head told her to respond that answer but Nicki is way off in her argument. Anyone who listens to this album would definitely agree with the reporter and judging from her “drake like” singles “Starships”, “Stupid Hoe” [where she is mostly singing more than rapping on the track] and her dramatic costumes [similar to Lady Gaga] one would assume that Nicki is trying to appeal to an audience outside of the urban realm. But I guess were wrong and Nicki/Roman is right yet again.
Here’s a bonus clip: Nicki talks new album Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded” which is number one in The US, UK, Canada, and Japan on the Graham Norton show.
