[Video] DMX Breaks Down While Talking About His Mother On Couples Therapy

Not Once Did She Tell Me, She Loved Me!

Rapper DMX, had an emotional breakthrough while discussing his childhood experience on the VH1 reality show ‘Couples Therapy’. In the episode [aired last night on VH1] Dr. Berman [psychologist] asked each of the celebrities to share a a childhood experience and it was X’s turn.

DMX could barely get through his words as he described his relationship with his estranged mother when he was an adolescent. DMX first address his long battle with drug addiction saying that “he often used drugs to relieve stress but now that he’s stopped using he calls “bino” [his mom] instead.  Overwhelmed with emotion DMX broke down.

Why? I just wanted to say …I just wanted to say, Mommy not my mother. I wanted to say Mommy. I just wanted to say ‘Hi’ to her to her because I haven’t talked to her in years. I just wanted to say, Hi Mommy, I love you.

She never told me that she loved me!

DMX also described how he’d often be beaten by his mother for no reason at all.”My mother would take the extension cords..like 2 or 3 of them and she would beat me while I b sleeping”. And like many people that suffer from abuse DMX too swept the incident under the rug saying: So what? She didn’t say she loved me, so what? … I’m here, I’m healthy, I got kids, I got a good career.”

Get More: Couples Therapy

I think it’s a commendable of X to bring share part of his life story with the world awareness of abuse and neglect that often goes untold especially in  ghetto”s of the world. DMX reminds that celebrities are humans too and they hurt like the rest of us.

“Couples Therapy” airs on Wednesday’s at 10 p.m. ET on VH1.
