Rapper, Eve Talks New Album, Lil Kim & Nicki Minaj Beef, And Favorite Female MC’s

Rapper, Eve is returning to music. The mc’s recently interviewed with womeninhiphop.com where she dishes on her upcoming lp “Lip Locked”, the state of hip hop and current female mc’s , artist’s that she’d like to work with including native affiliate Meek Millz, and more.

Eve says this album is truly for her fans. It’s been well over five years since we heard from the “pitbull in as skirt”  who took a hiatus from music to purse a successful [acting] career in hollywood. The rapper has returned to her roots and says fans can expect a new sound.

I’m gonna throw out a viral single at the end of this month before the official single. I’m probably gonna throw out couple records before the radio single. My whole goal for this record, since it’s been so long, I wanted to make sure that my core audience didn’t feel like Eve completely forgot about us and went to another side. I feel like this record is well rounded. It has enough of the hard street stuff, it has some radio stuff, but it also has some stuff that people can listen to when they’re feeling down.

Check out a few excerpts and the full interview below:

On Her Return To music and What She’s bringing This Time Around:
“For me I feel like I’ve always represented [pause] I always felt like I’m a regular chick that got a dope job… I got really lucky. I feel like I represent the ’round the way’ chicks. In music right now especially with Nicki Minaj being out, she’s not representing all females, so I feel like with me coming out, she[Nicki] represents a certain types of chicks, with Kim coming back out, she represent a certain type of chicks and I represent a different group of chicks and so forth.

On The Current State of HipHop And It’s lack Of Lyricism
“It is. It’s very.. [pause]..Alot of it is, but there’s a few people out that lyrically are doing there. Um It’s not like it was but music changes though. That’s every genre and every couple of years music changes..so it was it but there’s alot of stuff [music] that I don’t fuck with because I can’t [pause].. I don’t pride myself on words but I feel like if Mcee[rapper] any saying much then I can’t.”

On Her Favorite Thing About Philly
“That’s not even a fair question because I’m from Philly. When I was young, I spent alot trying to get out of Philly because I needed to get out of Philly in order to do what I needed to do but I’m older and I look back and when I go back home, it’s everything for me. My whole family is still in family everyone, literally and I’m in New York but it still feels far way for me but when I get to see everybody and go back home and walk around.. I love it. I wouldn’t want to be from any other place. I love Philly.”

On Her Favorite Mc’s right now:
“I like Azealia Banks. I think her style is dope. If you listen to her lyrics, she knows how to wordplay and I think that’s cute. I’m not really into the Iggy Azalea chick. I can’t really fuck with her music, but her look is crazy. I just can’t believe it.”

Favorite Female Rappers Growing Up:
“First it was MC lyte [although she was older]. My aunt used to listen to Lyte all the time. Latifah, Salt N-Pepa, but when I got to highschool it was Kim and Foxy, those were the chicks that I was listening to. They was the only ones out at the time anyway and Missy. Yeah Missy is good people.

On Female Mc’s She Would Like To Work With:
“I would definitely have to get Missy Elliott. I would definitely have to do Kim ’cause I never got to do a record with Kim. Azealia Banks, I like her. A lot of people want me to hate on Nicki and say crazy things about her. …….I ain’t got nothing to say about her. Until somebody names me by name, then I don’t feel like nobody [is talking] about me. I wouldn’t have a problem putting her on a record.”

On Her Dream Collaboration:
“Lauryn Hill has always been my one dream collaboration. She to me is so dope lyrically. Unfortunately, she’s just in a place right now mentally, but that would be a dream come true.”

On The Lil’ Kim vs. Nicki Minaj Feud:

“It’s not about publicity. It’s about wanting that respect. I think maybe that’s where Kim is coming from, like, you’re doing your thing right now and no one can take that away from you, Nicki—we all see it—but at the end of the day, if it wasn’t for Kim, she wouldn’t be here and that shit is real.”
