We all’ve wondered to know what happened with Lil Kim’s music career. Well, The self proclaimed Queen-B sat down with DJ Envy on MTV’s “Sucka Free” show and dished on her music hiatus and legal woes she encountered which prevented her from recording and releasing music for nearly six years.
The rapper reveals that her music career had become a stand-still project after she completed her one-year jail sentence back in 2005. Kim says that she was transitioning to another record label however her her current label demanded that she [Kim] buy out her freedom and her music career was put on hold.
In between me doing dancing with the stars I struck up a deal. I did a deal with TrackMasters but that didn’t work out. Contractually, by the courts, I could not record any music. I wasn’t supposed to put any music out. Technically ‘Black Friday’ was a mixtape, so I was able to get away with that. But technically they could have come after me if I were to put out an album. I couldn’t do it. So, this is something that my fans don’t know, but now you know. Legally I wasn’t allowed or able to do music. And ’til this day [you know] I’m not going to say I’m glad that the lawsuit happened with Trackmasters, but it made me more of a business woman.
