No Justice, No Peace!
Meet Trayvon Martin. On Feb 26th, Trayvon was visiting his father’s home in Sanford Florida. Everything seem to be going well up until Trayvon didn’t return home after a store run at the nearby ‘Seven Eleven’. Trayvon never made it home. The 17-year old teenager was gunned down by a neighborhood watchmen named George Zimmerman .
Police arrived on the scene shortly afterwards only to find Trayvon dead on the floor along with his cellphone, headphones a pack of skittles and an Arizona tea soda.
As Trayvon made his way back home from the Seven Eleven, he ran into Zimmerman [who was sitting in a parked car] and moments later he was shot and killed after he yelled and screamed for help. Zimmerman claims that he acted in self-defense after the two engaged in a physical altercation, but witnesses and the 911 tape recordings say otherwise.
At 7:00pm Zimmerman dialed 911 and informed authorities that a black male [Trayvon] was looking suspicious, and was up to no good in the gated community. In the audio, police informed Zimmerman to stay put and inform him that police are enroute. Zimmerman reveals that Trayvon is walking towards him…. , and then Zimmerman is hear saying “These a**holes always get away” .. The police asks Zimmerman is he following Trayvon, and he says ‘yes’. The police quickly advises Zimmerman to stand down and wait for the authorities to come but he ignore’s their orders and takes matters in his own hands ….. the tape cuts.
Listen to the audio below:
Part I Zimmerman calls 911 prior to the shooting
NOW HOW IS AN UNARMED TEENAGER A THREAT TO A WATCHMEN THAT IS CARRYING A LICENSED GUN AND FOLLOWING HIM?
Part II – Witness calls police after hearing Trayvon screaming for help and then a single shot is fired afterwards.
Mary Cutcher [key witness and neighbor of the gated community] says:
I heard someone crying; not boo-hoo crying, but scared or terrified or hurt maybe. To me, it was a child. This was not self-defense. We heard no fighting, no wrestling, no punching. We heard a boy crying. As soon as the shot went off, it stopped, which tells me it was the child crying. If it had been Zimmerman crying, it wouldn’t have stopped. If you’re hurting, you’re hurting.
The death of Trayvon Martin has sparked national debate over what constitutes self-defense? Trayvon’s family are completely outraged by the justice system lack of duty to fully investigate the murder of their unarmed son. Zimmerman has not been charged with a crime due to Florida law on “Justifiable Use of Force section 776.012” which says:
A person is justified in using force, except deadly force, against another when and to the extent that the person reasonably believes that such conduct is necessary to defend himself or herself or another against the other’s imminent use of unlawful force. However, the person is justified in the use of deadly force only if he or she reasonably believes that such force is necessary to prevent imminent death or great bodily harm to himself or herself or another or to prevent the imminent commission of a forcible felony
