I know many of our readers will say an error was made in the heading of this post, because there is no such title as “king” given to a woman in any African villages or countries. But, this is truly a Cinderella story. Peggyline Bartels is the first female to attain such royal title” king Peggy” is her name in the village of Otuam Ghana. Born 1953 in Ghana and became a naturalized citizen of the United States Of America in 1970, and worked as a secretary in the Embassy of Ghana in Washington D.C.
How did a Washington, D.C. secretary named Peggie lene Bartels become the king of an African village? A correspondent of CBS name Seth Doane found out about a phone call that transformed Peggylene’s life. A phone call Peggylene thought was a prank call, following the death of her uncle Otuam former chief, she was ritually chosen to replace him.

Since chosen Peggylene has spent several weeks each year in Ghana. King Peggy plans to becoming a full time king after her retirement from the Embassy, at which time she will oversee a village of 7,000, a 1,000 acre family owned estate and occupy a 8 bedroom Palace.
