If your as old as me then you just might remember Kirk Cameron from the hit tv show ” Growing Pains”. Well, Kirk is back in media headlines after he candidly expressed his disapproval for gay marriage and homosexuality on CNN’s Peirs Morgan show last week.
Kirk,an evangelical Christian is very outspoken about his beliefs and is highly regarded among his Christian community . Well, Kirk surely angered many folks after he made a few controversial remarks about about ‘gay person[s]’ and ‘gay marriage’
Kirk says that gay marriage was a redefinition of marriage that was invented by God.
Here’s a few excerpts from the interview:
On Gay Marriage:
Marriage is almost as old as dirt, and it was defined in the garden between Adam and Eve. One man, one woman for life till death do you part. So I would never attempt to try to redefine marriage. And I don’t think anyone else should either… So do I support the idea of gay marriage? No, I don’t.On Homosexuality:
I think that it’s…it’s unnatural. I think that it’s… detrimental, and ultimately destructive to so many of the foundations of civilization.
Piers then asked Kirk what would be his response if one of his [kirk] six children informed him that he/she were ‘gay’.
I would tell them just because you feel that way doesn’t mean you have to act on everything you feel
The two then got into a mini-heated debate over Kirk response and whether that message from a parent to a child causes more harm than good.
Well, The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD)
responded immediately
In this interview, Kirk Cameron sounds even more dated than his 1980s TV character. Cameron is out of step with a growing majority of Americans, particularly people of faith who believe that their gay and lesbian brothers and sisters should be loved and accepted based on their character and not condemned because of their sexual orientation.
Kirk also talked about his stance in abortion in which he said that he opposes abortion even in cases of rape because he feels that “An abortion compounds the problem.”
Piers Morgan tells TMZ that although he thought Kirk Cameron was brave to stand in his opinion he thought it was surprised by Kirk’s open admission that even in a hypothetical instance if his daughter was raped he would tell her not to have an abortion. That’s taking the biblical text too far says Piers.
