CNN Anchor Roland Martin Suspended Indefinitely Over Twitter Comment

CNN anchor Roland Martin, was suspended on Monday following a tweet he posted regarding a commercial that was shown during the Superbowl game this past Sunday Feb.6.

Just as millions of New Yorkers tuned into watch the Superbowl game this past Sunday in support of the NYC Giants defeat over the New England Patriots so did Martin. But unlike most new yorkers Martin is political analyst of one of the biggest and major news network of our country and therefore he is obligated to wear his work title on and off the television screen, and now he’s in deep trouble.

So what happened?

Martin made the following tweet after watching an H&M commercial that featured soccer star, David Beckham.

If a dude at your Super Bowl party is hyped about David Beckham’s H&M underwear ad, smack the ish out of him!

The LGBTQ (Lesbian,Gay,Bisexual,Trans-sexual, Queer) organization along with The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation said that the tweet advocated violence and as a result CNN suspended the anchor. Martin said he only was making a joke about soccer. But other folks and CNN didn’t find that joke to be funny at all. CNN says Martin’s remarks were “regrettable and offensive” and he will not be on air “for the time being.”

CNN revealed yesterday that Martin has now been suspended indefinitely aka ‘terminated for good’ due to his twitter comment and many people now have their eyebrows raised on this one. There is much talk about Martins suspension such as:

Did Martin make an anti-gay remark?

Does his suspension violate his constitutional first amendment right (freedom of speech)?

Professional vs. Personal Behavior. Is there a distinction or one in the same when it comes to one’s profession and or public figure image?
