Gabrielle Union and NBA star boyfriend Dwayne Wade is features in the latest cover of the Essence february issue looking happily in love with one another. In the mag, Gabrielle and Dwayne talk open up about their relationship and being a dark-skinned couple in hollywood.
Gabrielle says that they (her and Dwayne) felt compelled to share their love story to the their world and especially their fans. We wanted to show a happy brown-skinned couple says Gabrielle.
“We didn’t realize that what people were thinking was that we were being kept off of covers and that we were being shunned because we were a darker-skinned African-American couple, and when we realized that—and people were like, ‘We want more images of darker-skinned African-Americans’… We were like, ‘Are we being a little selfish? So we decided to share a little’.
Well, hopefully Dwayne Wade will take the relationship a step further and ‘put a ring on it’ like his fellow teammate Lebron.
