Leave Amber Cole Alone!

Enough is Enough! The internet was swirlling with hits after a youtube video leaked by teenagers showing Amber Cole a 14 year old girl performing “oral sex” on her ex-boyfriend in a desperate attempt to win his love back. Whats’s disturbing about the video is that the “ex” had two of his friends witness and record the act which took place on the outside premises of their school grounds. The act was then leaked on national media outlets such as facebook, twitter, and tumbler drawing over million hits of reactions. The Amber Cole video is said to be the “most widely distributed item of child pornography in US. History”.

Although the video has been removed from the internet this week that doesn’t seem to erase the real issues here. Sexual promiscuity, peer pressures, self-esteem and the ability to make cognitive decisions continue to plaque our young children and teenagers have often become the victims of these plaques. Amber is not the first and won’t be the last victim either but there is bad epidemic spreading amongst our young children and its time to put an end to it.

There has been numerous questions surrounding Amber’s actions as a whole. Why would she do such a thing? Was this a desperate cry for help or gratification? Did she do this act because she has no male figures in her life? Or did she simply do it to gain “celebrity status”? We all can speculate but will never know until Amber Cole decides to speaks publicly about the incident.

One thing we (social media outlets) should never do is perpetuate the exploitation of children pornography at no cost. As seen in the case of Tyler Clementi, a Rutger University student who committed suicide after his roommate secretly taped him (Clementi) having sex with another male student and broadcasted it live on twitter.

How does Amber pick up the pieces? If I could speak to Amber I would say this: One of the first things you can do “Lift your head up and reclaim your identity and self worth”. We all have “skeletons in the closet”, some of which are exposed intentionally by others and some that are exposed by ourselves but it is the healing process that allows us to confront our demons (skeletons) and reclaim who we truly are.
